In its mission to provide medical supplies and wellness programs MEDIC has been blessed to form a Strategic Alliance with Mercy International Mission Outreach.
Mercy International Mission Outreach is a division of Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio. This Strategic Alliance has been essential in helping MEDIC initiate the medical aspects of its mission's role in helping the under-served.
Mercy International Mission Outreach has been MEDIC's primary supplier, donating vast amounts of medical supplies and medical equipment. In turn these supplies have been sent across the globe to Benin Africa, and to Honduras with the help of another Missions organization, Mercy Ships International.
Mercy International Mission Outreach serves the role of supplier and MEDIC serves in maintaining inventories, warehousing, and distributing these supplies. Mercy to Mercy to Mercy. Mercy International Mission Outreach to Mercy Economic Development International to Mercy Ships International. Isn't that how it should be? What does the Lord require of us but to give…Mercy…
Some of the supplies we warehouse are earmarked for specific outreaches of Mercy International Mission Outreach to the Ukraine and the Dominican Republic. For the past five years Mercy International Missions Outreach have conducted medical, wellness and surgical clinics, and provided free health care to the under-served in these nations.
Mercy International Mission Outreach is comprised of Dr. David Gormsen, Chairman; Sister Maureen McCarthy OSU, Vice President of Mission and Ministry Services; Karen Feller, Mission Outreach Coordinator; Joan Buck Registered Nurse Operating Room; and Judy Melnyk Registered Nurse Operating Room Instructor.
We are thankful for this alliance and look forward to building on this foundation and hopefully even working together during outreaches in each of our areas of focus.
MEDIC sends team to Mercy Ships
The members of MEDIC were given the
opportunity to assist Mercy Ships International in April 2002 when Mercy Ships
personnel aboard Caribbean Mercy were in dry dock for regular scheduled
maintenance. They realized they had a schedule crunch and, in order to sail on
schedule, were in great need of skilled manpower to assist with a large list of
major renovations. Caribbean Mercy was scheduled to travel to Honduras and
perform several months of intensive eye surgeries as well as regular health
works. The entire summer schedule was in jeopardy of being scraped and literally
thousands of prescreened patients were about to be told their dream and only
chance for help would have to be denied. MEDIC was asked to assist with finding
a volunteer team and, within weeks, MEDIC was able to send to Caribbean Mercy a
full complement of carpenters, painters, and laborers. In one week of long, hot
14-hour days, the team was able to wipe out the captain's "must happen" list and
even put a big dent in his "would like to" list. We are very pleased to report
that Mercy Ships did retain the majority of its summer and fall schedule and
MEDIC was able to transport thousands of dollars worth of medical supplies
donated by Mercy International Mission Outreach directly to Caribbean Mercy. We
at MEDIC praise the Lord for every opportunity to serve Him and we truly give
Him all praise and glory. Every skill and gift each person has is in itself a
precious gift from God. So to God be the praise and glory. Amen. Our Lord has
said in Psalm 2:8: "Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the
ends of the earth your possession."
Nicaragua - MEDIC and Mitch Come Together
In 1999 a group of 11
volunteers from High Mill Church in Canton, Ohio responded to a plea for help
from Mercy Ships International. The nation of Nicaragua was in desperate need of
disaster aid after Hurricane Mitch devastated that country. From a 3 week relief
trip in 1999, friendships were born that would become the roots of MEDIC.
Through that help work, relationships grew between several original team members
and a shared vision was realized and a calling was answered. Today MEDIC is
established as an international ministry. Though we are a young and yet small
force in a very needy world, we at MEDIC do envision a ministry outreach that
will, with the Lord's blessing, reach around the globe and be a viable and
formidable weapon against poverty and deprivation. We at MEDIC desire to bring
hope and the love of the Lord Jesus Christ to all people through real tangible
help ministries such as medical help, health education, schooling, and
micro-loans just to name a few. If you would like to join us in this mission of
love you truly can help. There are many ways to get involved. Obviously, funding
is a constant need, but also of great need is the need of human resources. Many
people feel the call to go help the desperately poor; however, few make the move
to do it. Do you feel a call to get involved? Contact us through HOTLINK TO info@medicinternational.org We
would love to introduce you to truly "a world" of opportunities. Remember
Christ's great commission in Mark 16:15: " Go into all the world and preach the
good news to all creation . . ."
India MEDIC Advance Team Outreach
MEDIC was invited to do an
extensive outreach in India through the family of one of the founders and, early
in 2002, an advance team was sent to begin work. From this first trip, a base
was established in which further works continue even now. A college has been
established as well as an infrastructure of local pastors working together to
provide a wide range of opportunities to all in their local communities. Several
pastors have been put on MEDIC staff and MEDIC India was born. Just to name some
of the many tasks they work on daily, these ministers are working to pave the
way for micro-loan opportunities, educational classes from pre-school to
doctorate level, medical assistance, and evangelical ministries. Today we can
see tremendous progress in a country ruled by Hindu influences and at conflict
with the increasingly strong presence of Islam. Please join us in prayer that
those on the front line of these works would be blessed with the protection of
the Lord as they continue to work for the betterment of those in need. These
brothers and sisters do face deadly opposition daily for the sake of the cross.
The staff at MEDIC do not take this charge lightly. We know that the risk of
taking the Love of Jesus Christ to the oppressed is a life and death reality.
Your dedicated prayer is greatly appreciated as nothing can be done without
serious petition before the Lord. As is said in James 5:16: "The prayer of a
righteous man is powerful and effective." If you desire either to help with
these works financially or to gain more information, please contact us at info@medicinternational.org.
